The Wrap Up

Well our Aiken Adventure for 2012 has come to a close, but it's just the beginning of the Eventing season here in Area 1 for 2012 with lots of adventures to come!

Brittany was able to fly down for the last couple of days in Aiken for some great rides in the sun (we even squeezed in a XC school!) and to help me pack and drive home with a stop at Morven HT on the way.  It was great to introduce another New Englander to everything that is Aiken- she's hooked!  We moved Marissa (who I never would have survived without) to her new barn which is super cute, packed everything up at Quail Ridge (aka Valinor South), said goodbye to friends (both old and new), and hit the road to Virginia. We (all the horses along with Brittany, Zion, and I) stayed at our newly acquired friends' lovely equine estate in Berryville, VA and shipped in to show at Morven on Sunday. Stewart started off a little tense, but settled throughout the day into the most relaxed I've ever seen him at a horse show.  His show jumping took a couple of jumps to get into the flow of things but finished like a hunter round, and he absolutely ROCKED XC (dominating another trakehner!)  Beacon had a respectable dressage test, but a show jumping round that really didn't show him in his best light which left me a bit disappointed.  However, he was a dream XC on a fairly big Prelim track with some good technical questions which left me feeling much better.  We have some SJ homework to do, but as our new friend Brian pointed out- he just needs some tweaking to "throw a shape" over the show jumps (and he makes Grand Prix show jumpers for a living!)  So all in all, a good ending to our Aiken life and a great beginning for the Area 1 season!

check out the pictures at GRC photo http://www.photostockplus.com/home.php?tmpl=127&user_id=41021&event=1069431  Beacon is number 206, Stewart is 261.  There's some good shots!

Well we finally arrived back at Valinor Monday night (after a rather painful drive with all the traffic) and got everyone all settled in.  Tuesday was uneventful and all the horses (and me!) took a leisurely day to re-adjust.  Now to start the new season!!!!

Happy Riding!
